You should all know by now that I’m a Dorset girl and was born and bred here… though I don’t have the stereotypical Dorset accent. I live in a tiny village surrounded by fields full of crops and animals and it honestly is one of the most beautiful places I know – with gorgeous beaches and deep forests it really is lovely. Now, it also has some pretty decent food even if I do say so myself and one of my faves has to be Dorset Apple Cake… I love a good cake anyway but with its chunks of apple and sugary crust it really is yum. Well, I had an excuse to make one this week (other than that it’s delicious ) is that Christmas came early for me because the wonderful people over at Savisto sent me an amazing Savisto Food Mixer… it’s so pretty and shiny and has a bread and dough mix function too! Check out how I got on with my mixer….
The Dorset Apple Cake turned out amazing and I really do love my new mixer. Well, here’s my recipe in case you want to make you’re own too…
Ingredients
225g self-raising flour
2 tsp all spice
115g unsalted butter, diced and chilled, plus extra for greasing
115g light brown sugar
2 medium eggs, beaten
6-8 tbsp milk
225g Bramley or Granny Smith apple, peeled, cored and diced
100g sultana
2 tbsp demerara sugar (optional)
Â
Method
Heat the oven to 180C/160C fan/ gas 4. Grease and line a deep 20cm cake tin with baking parchment.
Mix the flour and cinnamon together in a large bowl. Add the butter and rub into the flour using your fingers, until it resembles fine breadcrumbs. Stir in the light brown sugar. Beat in the egg followed by 6 – 8 tbsp of milk – you want to achieve a smooth, thick batter.
Add the apples and sultanas and mix to combine. Scrape the batter into your prepared tin and gently level out. Sprinkle over the demerara sugar and bake in the oven for 45 – 85Â minutes or until golden and a skewer inserted into the middle comes out clean.
Allow to cool in the tin for 15 minutes and then carefully turn out onto a wire rack to cool further. Best served still warm with a little custard.
Do let me know how yours turned out and don’t forget to add one of Savisto’s stand mixers to your Christmas list this year!

I have an American apple cake recipe that this sounds similar too. I’m glad to now know there is an English version of apple cake! Sounds yummy. #foodiefriday
