Nobody likes waking up in the morning and feeling groggy as anything. Especially when you have kids to look after and a long list of things to tick off on your daily routine. You need to feel more energised and focused, and it all starts with how you fuel your body after waking up!
So, here’s a breakfast idea that will jumpstart your mornings and give you all the energy and focus you need for the day ahead. The best thing is that this idea is vegetarian, and with a couple of minor adjustments, you can turn it vegan as well. Without further ado, here’s the perfect breakfast:
Start with a glass of water
Before you do anything else, start your day with a glass or two of water. Gulp it down to help re-hydrate yourself after 7 or 8 hours of sleep. One of the reasons you feel groggy in the mornings is simply because you’re a bit dehydrated. Think about it, when else will you go that long without a drink?! Drinking a couple of glasses of water will help your body feel more energised right away.
Make yourself a coffee
After that, you can get started with the drink portion of your breakfast. Of course, you can’t go wrong with some coffee. Oats are also a great source of protein and fibre, both of which are required to help you feel fuller for longer.
A bowl of porridge on its own is great, but you should pimp yours to make it even better. Add some nut butter to gain additional protein and fibre – along with some essential fats. Sprinkle on some granola or seeds to get even more protein and a boost of extra energy. But, the key addition is some fruit. Breakfast is a great time to get at least one of your five a day as a topping on your porridge. You can choose whatever you like, but bananas are the best. Firstly, they go really well with peanut butter, so you can combine the two in your porridge. Secondly, they’re an excellent source of energy for the body – and they’re quite filling too. Feel free to use fresh or frozen fruit, it really doesn’t make much of a difference.
