Meet: Squirmy Popple

Squirmy Popple

I’m Katie, a 30-something cheese-loving mum to a very wriggly 9-month-old baby, aka The Popple.

Living in: Glasgow, which has been my home for 8 out of the 10 years that I’ve lived in the UK. I love this city to bits, even though rains pretty much ALL THE TIME. You can’t beat the Glasgow banter, the curry here is amazing, and no one appreciates a sunny day (aka a ‘taps aff’ day) like a Weegie.

From: New York. Not the city bit, the Long Island bit. And not the fancy bit of that where all the rich people have their summer homes – a suburb on the north shore, about an hour from Manhattan.

Occupation: On maternity leave from my job as a digital content developer for a large public sector organisation. Basically, I write stuff for a bunch of websites, mess around on Twitter and bang on about ‘online customer journeys’ a lot.

Hobbies: Writing (obv), reading, baking terribly, travelling (less so now that I have the Popple, but I’m hoping that will change) exercising (Yes, really – or least I used to be a bit of a fitness fanatic. Now I mostly excel in the sport of marathon buggy-walking.).

Favourite foods: CHEESE (pretty much all of it), veggie sushi, chocolate (especially the dark kind), mangos (which I ate obsessively when I was pregnant), almonds.

I blog because: I’m a writer at heart, and I knew when I had a baby, I’d need to write about that too. Writing about motherhood helps me make sense of this crazy new journey, keeps my mind active while on maternity leave, and has put me in touch with a great community of lovely ladies who are going through a lot of the same things as I am.

The best thing about being a mum: Watching the Popple discover the world and learn new skills. She thinks everything is really interesting, which helps me see things in a whole new light.
