I’m A Blogging Success Because… Series Week #8

Success comes in all shapes and sizes doesn’t it? It can be an award you’ve waited your whole life to get. It could be recognition for something or from someone that matters. Or it could be something as small as your child saying I love you. We don’t celebrate success, in whatever form enough in my opinion and over the past few weeks and months with the madness that is blogging awards and particularity in the past week with my fight to get blogging seen as a real job, I have come to realise that everyone is a success in their own right. So, we find ourselves here and with me opening up the doors to Mummy in a Tutu for the first time to a guest post series. This series is here for any and all bloggers to talk about success; their success or the success of someone else that they want to recognise. Welcome to “I’m a blogging success because… Let’s hand over to Sarah from Mum & Mor…

Parent blogging. It’s a big world. There’s thousands upon thousands of mums and dads out there striving to write quality content, following and engaging with as many people as possible on social media. Every blogger wants to be noticed and have their content read. It’s quite like getting into the job market. One may think that the parent blogging community iswoman sat typing on a laptp an ideal breeding ground for one-upmanship, jealousy and nastiness.

I haven’t experienced any negative behaviour from my fellow bloggers. Maybe there is nastiness occurring somewhere, but I’m very lucky to be around some fabulous people (love you, Tribal Chat!). Yes, there’s an element of competitiveness in the blogging world, but then I find a little competition healthy. It keeps me on my toes, gives me a kick up the backside to continue improving my writing.

Why am I a blogging success? It’s not because of my visitor count (dismal!), it’s not because of my Klout score (it’s bloody terrible), it’s not because I bribed 1k plus people to follow me on Twitter with the promise of cookies (okay, I didn’t really!).

I’m a blogging success because I have blogged for almost a year without giving up. I have suffered from depression and anxiety. I still get anxious, but the depressive episodes are few and far between nowadays. Due to my mental health issues, my previous blogging attempts were flops. I shut down and reopened numerous blogs because I had such little self-confidence, yet desperately wanted to write. I really believed nobody was reading, that nobody liked my writing. This time I am lucky enough to be part of a couple of supportive blogging communities, where I receive much-needed pep talks and advice concerning writing, social media, parenting, etc.

I’m an expat and feel isolated at times, but having these people to talk to helps so much and encourages me to continue onwoman sat at a computer writing with a cup of coffee. I know there are others out there like me with similar highs, lows, struggles and accomplishments. I don’t feel so lonely living in a foreign country made me seem.

I’m also a blogging success because people like my writing. If I sucked as much as I originally thought, I wouldn’t have been invited to blog on The Huffington Post, or become a featured blogger in some linkys I joined. I wouldn’t have people messaging me, telling me they enjoy what I write. I’m thankful for the compliments I receive. They really do help.

Writing is therapeutic, It helps me on a personal level. I have a healthy outlet to express my thoughts and feelings. I have a voice that I didn’t have before. I believe that’s another blogging success of mine.
