The Top 5 Tech Toys for Kids

With a certain festive event heading ever closer (sorry, I know it’s too early), I have been starting to think about what toys the kids will want this Christmas.

Every year, I say I’m going to be more organised than the year before, and every year I fail. But I do feel one step ahead already this year, and wanted to share my recent findings with you.

So if you’ve got tech-savvy kids who love the latest gadgets, here’s what seems to be trending for 2018:

1. I-Top

Remember spinning tops? Well, this is the latest electric version and is already being tipped as the must-have stocking filler for all kids this Christmas. It brings a retro toy to the 21^st century as it not only spins for hours of fun but counts the number of rotations and allows kids to compete against each other.

2. Hoverboard

If you haven’t seen kids whizzing down the street on a hoverboard (or balance board), where have you been all this time?

These cool gadgets are operated entirely by your feet, including speed and direction – so they take some mastering but are pretty fun once you get going. Plus, a hoverboard encourages kids to get active, too, which is always a good thing in my mind.

Costs range from around £200 to £500.

3. Lego Technics Bugatti Chiron

At the top end of the budget (or way out of it, I think) is this fabulous replica of the Bugatti Chiron, brought to kids (and big kids!) by Lego. It’s a 1:8 scale model of the £2.5 million sports car so is perfect for the motorsports enthusiast in your life.

But you will need to splash out for this as it’s priced at an eye-watering £329.99.

4. Nerf Laser Alpha

This provides kids with everything they need to launch themselves into live-action laser fun, going head-to-head with their friends and family. It uses lights and sounds to register each hit and can even be synced up to an app that locates opponents, earns them power-ups, tracks their performance and customises their blaster.

Available from £29.99 to £49.99.

5. FurReal Buzz Pet ‘Ricky the Trick Lovin’ Pup’

Robots don’t tend to do it for me, but I have to admit it – this pup really is quite cute. And ‘Ricky’ comes with 100 motion and sound combinations so you and the kids will constantly be surprised at the tricks he can do. He even comes with his own treats! A great alternative if you’re getting the ‘I want a puppy’ cry already this year.

Yet again, it would seem as though the top gifts for kids this Christmas contain a rather fabulous mixture but there’s definitely something for every tech-savvy kid (and parents’ budget!).
