I’m A Blogging Success Because… Week #28

Success comes in all shapes and sizes doesn’t it? It can be an award you’ve waited your whole life to get. It could be recognition for something or from someone that matters. Or it could be something as small as your child saying I love you. We don’t celebrate success, in whatever form enough in my opinion and over the past few weeks and months with the madness that is blogging awards and particularity in the past week with my fight to get blogging seen as a real job, I have come to realise that everyone is a success in their own right. So, we find ourselves here and with me opening up the doors to Mummy in a Tutu for the first time to a guest post series. This series is here for any and all bloggers to talk about success; their success or the success of someone else that they want to recognise. Welcome to I’m a blogging success because… Let’s hand over to Nicola from Mummy to Dex!

My baby, Dexter was a few months old and we had found this perfect routine where he was sleeping three or four times a day for up to two hours at a time. I was finally able to catch up on two seasons worth of Grey’s Anatomy, but felt a little guilty that I was lying on my sofa, iPad in hand, not doing very much. shot from above, a womans legs on a grey bed, wearing dark leggings, bare feet, with a silver laptop and one of her hands on the mouse pad A friend of mine suggested I write a couple of blog posts to highlight exactly how I’d created this perfect routine where my house was presentable, the baby was napping on a schedule and I was free and easy for several hours a day. And that was where my journey began. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would still be blogging eight months later. When I decided to go self-hosted in October, I was so panicky about spending the money, so sure that this blogging fad would come and go, like so many other hobbies I’ve started and then given up. Blogging has brought me so much joy. I’ve reached readership numbers I never thought possible. My social media numbers have grown steadily and I’ve received hundreds of messages thanking me for my posts and my baby led weaning recipes. I’ve made friendships that will last a lifetime with people who I never would have ordinarily met or even chatted to if I’d had the chance. Most importantly, it has kept my brain ticking over during this short lived, yet prolonged period of maternity leave.  People joke about baby brain, woman laptop work blog coffee computer phone but it is no laughing matter when your whole life you have prided yourself on your spelling and grammar and suddenly you are struggling to remember the most basic of grammatical concepts. Writing and most importantly, reading other blogs has helped immensely. So, why am I a blogging success? I could say it’s because of my stats; my DA, which recently and eventually climbed above 20 or because of the number of people I’ve touched and, hopefully helped along the way. But on a personal level, I’m a success because I’ve stuck with it for so long. Yes, eight months of blogging may not seem that long to some, but for me, that is a huge success. I’ve blogged consistently week after week for eight months and have not yet grown tired of it. And why would I? I am so incredibly thankful to the friend who suggested I start blogging. Without them, I’d have fewer friends, less memories and a much more befuddled brain.
