You might be thinking, hang on, she doesn’t have a teen, and you’re right I don’t. However, I do have a teenage nephew who is already taller than me at 15 which I find quite alarming to be honest. Due to my amazing sister and her partner deciding to foster, my nephew is moving into a different bedroom that is well in need of a makeover and he totally deserves one too. So, I thought why not take this opportunity to do a post on how to makeover a teen bedroom, no matter what their tastes.
First of all, as with any room, you kind of need to pick a theme that will tie the whole design together. It could be a theme from a favourite movie or TV show or it could just simply be a colour scheme. Rowan decided he wanted a chilled space with light colours, like blue and green but with hints to his favourite hobbies, Harry Potter and Anime.
We decided to look at teen bedding first because once you have chosen the bedding the rest of the room will tend to follow. He ended up choosing this beautiful tie-dye blue and green bedding set which I personally find really calm and serene. Harry Potter tends to be quite dark and anime quite colourful, and we wanted to go for light and bright rather than a dark dungeon.
Based off of the colours on the bed, we went for white walls with really gorgeous sage green curtains to compliment and tie in to the bedding. Due to the fact that the rest of the room is light and bright, we decided to go for light wood furniture but with a modern, Japanese twist. So a light wooden bed frame and desk. The only dark spot in his room is the giant black gaming chair he insisted on keeping, but you cannot with them all.
Finally to finish off this “zen” gamer space, we found some fake succulents in little concrete style pots to dot around the room, to enhance the chilled space. Overall Rowan was totally over the moon and hey if they have guests, it will be a pretty great guest room to turf him out of too!
