My little is not so little anymore – she is growing up so fast, I feel like I have blinked and we are suddenly heading into the tween era and I don’t know if I am mentally prepared. Recently we had a sort out of her bedroom and she asked me to sell her play kitchen and her wooden dolls house as she would rather put the money in her savings and other children get to enjoy the toys, than for them to sit their collecting dust. I saw and understood the logic but inside I was weeping. We then got to her massive drawer full of dolls and all their accessories and I asked her if she’d like to get rid of any of them as well, and a very quick and resounding “NO!” was bellowed at me and I breathed a quick sigh of relief. She still loves to play with her dolls and disappear into her own imagination, so when we were asked to review the L.O.L. Surprise! OMG Sunshine Makeover – Bubblegum DJ doll I knew someone would be very pleased!
We have been huge fans of the L.O.L Surprise! dolls for some time and Alyssa’s collection grows steadily each year, so to receive a new one made her heart sing and she was bugging me for ages to open it but she needed to finish her homework first (do your kids have THIS MUCH homework in Primary school?!)
I have to say that unboxing L.O.L Surprise! dolls has to be one of the least stressful tasks when it comes to unboxing kids toys. Nothing is screwed in or impossible to reach. The box is easy to slit open and the doll is held in place by a few pieces of tape and some clothing tags which are easy to snip apart – I wouldn’t recommend pulling them like we do with clothing tags as it would be easy to cause damage to the doll.
Now normally with the L.O.L Surprise! dolls you get a few packets with secret items in and can also turn the box into a wardrobe or dressing room for the doll but in the case of the L.O.L Surprise! OMG Sunshine Makeover Bubblegum DJ this is not the case.
You no secret packages and the box isn’t designed to be use in imaginative play. What you do get is:
Now, this might seem a bit disappointing considering what you can get with other L.O.L Surprise dolls but when you consider the special features this doll has you’re not disappointed.
Now what really stands out about this doll is her colour-changing capabilities – that’s right she can change colours depending on the light/weather. You can watch her hair change colour from light pink to dark pink and her yellow and teal highlights also change colour… but I’ll leave their changing colours as a surprise – no spoilers here!
What’s more, when exposed to light her clothes also change colour! Her leg warmers become purple as do her shoes and a cute pink print will also appear on her skirt. If the kids want the original colours back, they just need to take the doll out of the sunshine and the colours will revert back to the original ones.
Honestly – this doll is next level!
I’m not going to lie this doll is cute and it has to be said that at a regular price of £21.49 or the current sale price of £16.99 she is definitely incredibly affordable compared to some of the other dolls and brands out there.
Alyssa loves this doll, who has become a current main character in the shenanigans her dolls get up to (I believe Bubblegum DJ is currently trying to rescue Rapunzel who has been captured by Mulan…drama!)
Although the L.O.L Surprise! OMG Sunshine Makeover Bubblegum DJ lacks the accessories we expect to see with an L.O.L Surprise! purchase she makes up for it with her colour changing features – the hair being Alyssa’s absolute favourite thing about this doll, though it does now mean she wants colour changing hair!
