#ABloggingGooodTime Week 67
19th October 2017
I recently started a Vlog series over on YouTube where I interview different bloggers and publish their answers to some random questions I came up with that I thought might either generate interesting or comical answers. One of the questions was, “Tell me about someone who completely changed your life.” That’s quite a tall order isn’t it? Changing someone’s life I mean. One blogger mentioned an author, another couple mentioned their partners and it got me to thinking about what my answer would be. Did you know that if one person hadn’t done something for me, my life could have been very different to what it is now? I could have been homeless. I could have been alone with a baby and not a clue what to do. Instead I have a home, a new career I forged myself whilst being encouraged and supported and I have a little girl who is thriving and all because of one person. That’s my mum.

It was a bit of a whirlwind really – I broke up with Alyssa’s dad on the Thursday and then the Monday I found out I was pregnant, Tuesday I was told I was being made redundant and two weeks later I was told on Boxing Day my best friend of 14 years didn’t want me living in her house with a baby and two weeks after that I was kicked out. My mum alyssa as a newborn on my chest asleep with my mum stood next to me.took me in without hesitation and without question. We’d had our differences over the previous year (99% of which were to do with that now ex-best friend) but she did it. She not only did that but she helped me. She hugged me and comforted me as the world around me crumbled, I was given abuse and bullied and all the while growing a little life inside of me. She was also there holding my hand when my little one arrived into the world, albeit early and she only just made it but she was there.

Her birthday is coming up soon and I am finally in a position where I could get her a decent present and have beena purple towel with a heart shaped tea light candle lit, shells stones other rolled towels and pearls all around trying to think of something I could get for her. Obviously she would tell me that I don’t need to get her anything (jokingly) but then she’d also tell me to get her the world (less jokingly!!) Knowing my mother as well as I do, I came up with a few ideas such as:

  • She loves Scotland and they do gorgeous Spa Days in Glasgow so I thought about a weekend trip to one of those perhaps with Bear to look round the sites.
  • You can get really good last minute deals for weekends away in Europe so again I thought about sending her away with Bear.
  • Another idea I had was for a statement piece of jewellery – perhaps a Handmade Wire-Wrapped piece with her birthstone in which would be totally unique just like her.
  • Then I thought about something more out of this world and thought about Naming a Star after her and gifting her that – too much?

The list is literally endless as there are so many things I could do for her which wouldn’t even come close to saying how thankful I am. She loves designer handbags (she gives them each their own name and keeps them in the protective cases they come in!!) so I may go down that route because it has definitely been a while since she has added one to her collection. I’ll definitely be getting a canvas or photo book for her to go along with whatever else we get her and will probably gift that from Alyssa to her very special Nonna. Any ideas – answers on a postcard please guys!

  1. I like the idea of this spa day ink Glasgow – you should come with her and we can hang out! #ablogginggoodtime

  2. Such a good idea for a series. I’ll have to check it out. As for your mums gift she’ll love whatever you get her.I know this because my daughter gives awful presents, (snotty tissues, half-chewed food, that kind of thing) and I still love her unconditionally! #ablogginggoodtime

Oooh so many possibilities! I remember the first time I was able to buy my mum something nice just for her. I got her an ammonite necklace as she’s always loved them. She still wears it regularly today. đŸ™‚ #ablogginggoodtime

Mums are courageous and life changing things. My mum has done so much after not being around for so long! but my life changing person has got to be my dad. He has done so much for me in my life been a dad and a mum and raised me to be who I am today as well as provide me with a life long job. this is a great post and its a great question to really get you thinking. #ablogginggoodtime

Sometimes the planning is half the fun for gifts, because you always feel so good about them…..and you can tell her all of your thought too!!

  8. Name a star could be really special for some I think. #ablogginggoodtime

  9. Lexie says:

I have loved the idea of naming a start after someone since seeing A Walk to Remember. haha. It’s so sweet.
I hate gifts sometimes. Nothing ever feels good enough for those special people in my life.
I’m sure you will come up with something great!

  10. Lucy At Home says:

Aaaw what a lovely tribute to your mum. I am very grateful to have a hugely supportive mum too and I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for her #ablogginggoodtime

  11. Oh my GOODNESS it’s my mum’s birthday coming up. This is such an amazing idea. I’ve been struggling for inspiration so thank you! Funnily enough the meaning of my son’s name is North Star so I guess I don’t need to name one after him đŸ™‚ #blogginggoodtime

  12. Ellen says:

Wow, I wouldn’t be able to answer that one. So many people come to mind, ones that were kind but some not so but yet they all had an impact on where I am today.

  13. Awwww – I bet your Mum welled up when she read this post. She is certainly a star – I think having a star name after you as a pressie is a fab idea! xx #ablogginggoodtime xx

  14. Tammymum says:

Ah your mum is a real good egg! I think spa days anywhere always make for amazing presents but then I LOVE a spa day! #ablogginggoodtime

  15. Helena says:

Personalised presents get my vote. So personalised handbag it is. #ablogginggoodtime

  16. Your mum sounds fab – so glad that she was there for you when you needed her. What a rough ride you had during your pregnancy with Alyssa and what a stressful time that must have been for you. Having support makes such a difference. A weekend spa break sounds like a lovely way to say thank you đŸ™‚ #ablogginggoodtime

  17. Jane lockyear says:

I didn’t know you were writing this. It made my eyes leak! You are where you are through grit, determination and sheer hardwork and I couldn’t be more proud of you. xxx
