As the year draws to a close I like to plan ideas for holidays for the coming year. As I find this gives us as a family something to look forward to during the cold winter months.
It also makes sure that when we arrive at our chosen destination we are sure about what we want to do and see and that it fulfils all of our expectations and needs.
We need to be sure if it is suitable for children obviously, but also something for adults to enjoy also. So this is where an evening and a glass or two of wine with the family comes into play and we plan the ultimate getaway.
Caravan holidays are one of our favourites and throughout Britain, there are so many places we have yet to see. I think we are all in agreement that Scotland will be the next destination and our chosen area is the Cairngorms which has some of the best campsites in Scotland. It’s a national park and is absolutely stunning. It has in the past been used as a backdrop to make films such as Bond and Braveheart and has forests, mountains and rivers.
We are particularly drawn to the Glenmore forest area as this is in the heart of the national park. Much of the forest park is a national nature reserve. So we can look forward to fabulous walks through heathers and spectacular views of mountains in the distance, which is absolutely the essence of Scotland.
We also very much want to visit Loch Morlinch Beach as this offers something for everyone! It’s the highest beach in Britain and is the only freshwater beach in Scotland. It’s perfect for water sports and you can hire a boat, canoe or windsurf board. Or just plunge into the water for a wild swim. And for the little one, there is a fabulous sandy beach to play on. So this is top of the must-visit list.
Alyssa’s only request (demand) is to visit the Cairngorm Reindeer herd. Britain’s only free-ranging herd of reindeer. I think she is secretly hoping she may catch a glimpse of Santa on his holidays too!
Mr TuTu is set on going grass sledging, I have to admit it looks like great fun but I’m not sure if I am brave enough for that. My choice would be the Aviemore Cairn and Stone Circle, history and mythology, so right up my street.
One thing I do know is that there are so many amazing places to visit that we will need a good two weeks to get to see them all. But Glenmore forest in the Cairngorms is a great place to base ourselves.
This year we have convinced the family to come along and they are now considering investing in a caravan as well. So naturally, we have recommended Bailey of Bristol as a place to start their search, as all their current caravans and motorhomes can be viewed online with a 360 virtual tour. This is where we started our love of caravans and have never looked back and their website and news and events section has been great for travel inspiration. We’re now also looking at the Isle of Skye, the Scottish Borders and the West Coast for our camping in Scotland adventures.
So roll on summer 2022, and Scotland brace yourselves because the TuTu clan are definitely on their way!
