Dear Mummy Bloggers…. Actually You F**KIN ROCK!

Okay, so those of you in the blogging community and a lot of you that aren’t may have recently become aware of a “viral” post going round from an “Ex-Mummy Blogger” claiming that all Mummy bloggers and their blogs are “f**king shit!” If you haven’t seen it, first of all I do not know where you have been and second of all, I am not going to pop a link in because I would like to avoid sending any more traffic over in that direction or increasing the stats of a blog post that actually was completely untrue… for the most part.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not arguing against every point that was made, because some were actually valid. However, the points within the blog post were over-shadowed by the delivery in which they were made. But, that was the whole point wasn’t it?! The whole point of the post was not to criticise and attack the thousands of mummy (and daddy… let’s be inclusive here) bloggers the point was to get attention. That was evident right from the title and the inclusion of the word “FUCK!” (Please Note: I have added it to my title in the hopes of going viral too – that would be awesome?!) But apart from some ridiculously inaccurate blog stats for the rest of her blog, a few thousand? (million??) shares and a lot of hate mail comments… what has she gained??

As I said, not all of her comments were inaccurate. Out there in bloggerland, there are several many bloggers who skim by doing what they can. I join between 10 and 15 linkies (for those not in the know these are sharing platforms hosted each week by bloggers) and each requires/asks you to read a certain number of posts and comment on them. I take a night and a morning off from blogging once a week and do them all at once. By saying I do them all at once, I do actually include the term “read!” I don’t skim, I actually read and take in what another blogger has taken the time to sit down and actually write. I then think for a minute and write a comment based on what I have just seen and read – often giving an unasked for opinion but still an informed comment none the less. However, our angry

Ex-Mummy Blogger was right… there are bloggers who are completely unsupportive of others, join a linky with their own posts, expect to get loads of views and informed comments but when going to another persons blog, merely skim read (if read AT ALL) and then write two of the most offensive words, written alone, known to a blogger…. ” Great Post!” Now to an outside eye, you might think… hang on that’s a compliment isn’t it?!? No… it isn’t! This is a get out clause comment meaning the leaver of said comment probably has not bothered to read your post but wanted to show that they had been there. This is probably more offensive than them not bothering to turn up at all!!

Another fact I ACTUALLY agreed with is that it is very hard to write new and innovative blog posts. Evvveeerryyy mummy blogger will have a list somewhere on their blog of “Funny things my baby did” or ” Things to buy for a baby” etc etc etc. You can’t escape it there are in fact only so many things you can write about. I’d like to point out that generally, it is not people copying other people. One of my first posts was genuinely a light bulb moment.I spent ages getting it right and was so happy when I hit publish. That week, I swear to God that 3 other bloggers brought out posts on the same topic!! It’s a hazard of the game.

A blogger friend and I have recently been discussing the fact that some of our own “ideas” for posts and series that we have been running for sometime have been appearing on a few other blogs including some exact wording! Now, our hating Ex-Mummy Blogger was right… there will always be some people who never, ever come up with their own thoughts and ideas and will merely skirt by on the coat tails of others. However, in my opinion you can only do this for so long before you are either called out or the blog merely fades away into nothing.

But what about all the similar topics, I hear you say? Well yes… if you are a mummy blogger (or daddy blogger) it is more than likely that you will share the same topics with other bloggers of the same genre. Not denying that. However, what makes it different is that each blogger is unique! Each blogger comes from their own place. Their own background. Their own

experiences. No two lives are the same, therefore why should any two bloggers or even 10,000 mummy bloggers be the same?!? Unless you go a copy and paste your post, or “Re-word” so it’s only mildly recognisable, it’s going to be different. YOU are what makes your blog and your blog posts unique whether the topic has been covered once or a million times before it doesn’t matter.. because YOU have never written about it.

So, let me be clear…. whilst the ranting Ex-Mummy Blogger made a few valid points, there was one huge and extremely un-researched fault within her blog post. Despite beginning her insults with the prelude of “I mean this in the most loving and well-intentioned manner” she went on to say “Dear Mummy Blogger… Your Mummy Blog Fucking Sucks!” There was the fault… did you see it? No? Let me point it out. The major and un-researched fault within this post, within this sentence(!!!!) was that it was directed to EVERY and ALL mummy bloggers, whereas in fact not every blogger is the way she describes them to be and THAT is the fatal error whether the rest is true or not!

I say to the “well-intentioned” Ex-Mummy Blogger… you make some valid points. However, if it was really as well-intentioned as you meant, then perhaps next time, why not try delivering the message in a less hostile manner and getting your facts right too?

To the rest of you….  Dear Mummy Bloggers…. Actually, You FUCKING ROCK!!

  1. Great Post! .. . . sorry just joking couldn’t resist! I do hate when people use that as the whole comment, I mean if it was so great can’t they elaborate? I get we all don’t have time to leave long comments, yes us mummy bloggers are busy as F**K, but still don’t link up if you don’t have the time or respect to comment!

I didn’t read this post you are referring too, although I have heard about it. With any sweeping statement you are starting off wrong, not every mummy blogger sucks, you can never say that. I have met the most wonderful supportive people through my blog and I agree with what you say yes topics will cross over but we all have different takes on these topics as you said we all come from different backgrounds. Before I started blogging I had never read even one blog post, I had heard of blogging and I googled how to start one and just did it. It started off more mummy and now is mummy, lifestyle and inspirational I think that helps me with exploring new topics as I just write what comes to mind as I go. I am so not organised and that can be hard but usually something pops into my head when it needs to. Sorry I am blabbing on, and on! Really interesting read!
