Why Should I Choose Solid Oak for My New Kitchen?

So, we’re going to be moving house soon and have been looking at the type of kitchen we’d like and we really love the look of an Oak kitchen as it can look both modern and a little bit country too which is a combination of all our tastes. From beautifully crafted wood and robust stone to engineered laminates and shiny metals, there are lots of materials to choose from when you’re looking for cabinets and counters for your kitchen. But which products will work best in your cooking space? Here, we take an in-depth look at solid oak and examine why it could be the perfect option for your kitchen.

It’s easy to care for and long-lasting

When you invest in new units and worktops for your home, you’ll want products that will stay looking great year after year. Oak ticks this box. A naturally hardwearing material, it can stand the test of time. As long as you follow some simple care instructions,an open kitchen cupboard you can ensure your cabinets and surfaces last. Many products made from this material have a protective coating for added longevity. For example, the units provided by Solid Wood Kitchen Cabinets are machine coated with a special lacquer that means they need zero or little maintenance.

Also, unlike certain plastic and metal kitchen fittings that have a highly polished finish, oak units and surfaces don’t require constant polishing to get rid of fingerprints and smudges. This can be a big benefit in a busy home, especially if you’ve got young kids.

It can look stunning with any design scheme

You’re no doubt after style as well as substance when you’re planning your kitchen, and oak delivers this in spades. The material can look stunning with virtually any design scheme. You can go au naturel and keep the timber bare if you’re looking for a soft, warm tone to complement a rustic, farmhouse style cooking space. You also have the option of getting your units painted in particular colours. Whether you want something muted or bold, contemporary or traditional, you’ll be able to find products that work perfectly with your décor theme.keeler_oak_tree_-_distance_photo_may_2013

It can be sustainably sourced

Another benefit associated with oak is the fact that it can be sustainably sourced. If you want your kitchen worktops and units to be eco-friendly, simply look out for a supplier that provides timbers with certification from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). Wood that is FSC certified comes from well-managed and sustainable forests, so you can buy it with peace of mind. This information should be available on suppliers’ websites.

So, if you’re looking for a material for your kitchen that’s both practical and beautiful, it’s worth considering solid oak.
