At some point or another in our lives we have all played some sort of gaming console be it a little handheld, a pc or one of the many iconic ones out there. I have a family full of gamers ranging from the oldest right down to some of the youngest. Don’t get me wrong, we all go out into the world as well but a hobby a lot of the family share together is gaming. At Christmas time we have been known to team up for some amazing all family quiz games on the consoles and it can be a great way to relate to each other and have fun all together. We’re lucky enough to have several different types of computer and consoles in the house including an Xbox so when Smyths got in touch and asked if I’d like to explain to everyone what the new XBox Game Pass was, I was happy to enlighten all new and existing gamers.

Xbox Game Pass is a subscription service available to customers to purchase multiple of games at a set cost each month. Game Pass library includes over 100 great Xbox One and Xbox 360 backward compatible titles including Forza Motorsport 7, Disneyland Adventures, Sea of Thieves and Halo. It can be described as Netflix for video games. A Game Pass allows you access to the library to download and play all games. This continues until your subscription is cancelled/expires, or a game leaves the Game Pass catalogue.

You can choose whether to buy a one month pass or a six month pass and obviously it works out cheaper in the long run if you go for a six month one. You can also buy passes as gifts for others so if you have an Xbox mad friend or relative this might be a great idea for Christmas or a birthday. Here are some frequently asked questions answered about the Xbox Game Pass.

How does Game Pass work?

  • Redeem Game Pass at microsoft.com/redeem.
  • Browse the Xbox Game Pass catalogue or visit your Xbox dashboard.
  • Install your choice of games.
  • Play as much as you want, whenever you want.
  • Buy as a gift for a gamer or the whole family.

Why Buy Game Pass?

  • Play new Xbox exclusives the day they launch.
  • Access 100+ Xbox One and Xbox 360 backward compatible games on your Xbox One.
  • Play Xbox Play Anywhere games on your Windows PC and Xbox One.
  • Pay only €9.99 month and play as much as you want.
  • It’s a perfect gift with unlimited games for the whole family.

Some people have asked well what is the difference between the Game pass and the Live Gold? Well, Xbox Game Pass gives you unlimited access to over 100 Xbox One and Xbox 360 backward compatible games. You should know that you don’t need the Live Gold to use the Xbox Game pass BUT if you have it you can use it to play with your friends online.

What happens if your game leaves the library?

If your game leaves the library you will need a physical or digital copy of your game to continue playing. As a Game Pass member, you can save up to 20% off the purchase price of Game Pass games. Plus, 10% off DLCs.

You can purchase Xbox Game Pass subscriptions from Smyths Toy Stores.
