The Comforts of a Single Mummy…

woman sat on a bed with a laptop
I am not going to lie… being a single mummy is hard work. There is no one else there at 3 am in the morning when the baby has gotten up for the millionth time and you can barely open your eyes, or to take the baby so that you can go to the bathroom alone for a change! I have been very fortunate because my mum and family have been amazing will all the help they have given me so I cannot imagine how tough things would have been had I been totally alone. However, there are a few benefits to being a single mummy you know….

a bed with a blanket on

1 – Now whilst I do occasionally have a little person sharing with me, 80% of the time I have a whole big double bed all to myself! I can stretch out and sleep in any position I like whilst not having to worry about stinky man smell, duvet hoggers or cold feet using me as a radiator. Plus, if anyone is snoring it’s only me and I can’t here myself so that is a huge win… as I said I have the odd baby foot in my face but Miss Independent likes her own me wearing a red jumper that says need more sleepspace when sleeping at the moment… I wonder how long that will last?!?!

2 – So whether you are in all day or going out and coming back, once that door closes…. it doesn’t matter one jot what you look like! I love nothing more than curling up in my comfy joggers and a snuggly jumper or hoodie, rain or shine, nothing beats good old comfort clothing. This gorgeous jumper was sent to me by Little Dot Baby Shower, who not only do the most amazing range of baby shower bits but the most awesome mamma and baby wear ever!! I mean how true is this jumper “Need more sleep – Mama Life!” I saw it and just had to have it and it is soooooo comfy and cosy but not too thick meaning I can get away with it on summer and winter evenings! Of course, underneath the comfy outfit leads me onto the next point….

hairy legs3 –  As I was saying, beneath those joggers…. hairy legs!! That’s right girls, technically I don’t have to shave all winter!! I can just plait them and chop it all off next summer. Hey, I can even get away with going a few days in summer if I wear a maxi dress or I am just at home! Ah the luxury… and I must be saving an absolute fortune of razors – bonus!

4 – Utter control…. once the baby is in bed I regain control and am ruler of the roost. It’s what I want for dinner, its my choice of what to watch on TV anndddd…. now brace yourselves but I even get to have the remote control!! I know, it felt weird in my hand but oh so good too! Send them down the pub and give it a whirl ladies (I say send them down the pub because I am not proposing you kick them out or end your relationship purely for remotal control!!)

5 – Finally, and my fellow bloggers will like this one, there is no one trying to grasp my attention when actually what I need to do is sit down and work/blog. I hear so many of my blogging buddies getting an earful from their other halves because they are being told that blogging is taking over. I count myself very fortunate that I haven’t gocoffee and a laptopt someone that I am trying to please at the same time as trying to really make my blog work as a career. I often sit up long into the night (it’s rather late right now) finishing off blog posts or scheduling or trawling the web for new blogger opportunities… I’d feel very sorry for my other half if I had one!

Of course there are girl lying on a bedsome perks to being single as you can see, but I am not sure that any of them however great, will replace the amazing feeling of arms around you or having someone share in the joy of your achievements. Yes, I may have to ignore them for a while, but  I suppose if they were the right one, then they would understand as I am sure many partners do.

However, if someone does come along and decides to join my crazy world, there is one thing they won’t be changing from my single mummy comforts… The comfy clothes stay boys… that door closes, the bra comes off and the comfies go on! Are you with me girls?

  4. Remotal control = big perk! Haha. I think it’s so important to spend time focussing on the positives in life and it makes for a much happier person rather than someone who can only see how badly done to they are. Everyone has positives and negatives in their life. #ABloggingGoodTime

I am sat here ignoring mr Tammy in my joggers, blogging. It’s ok cause he’s sat in his PJs on the iPad… It’s not a caste Blanche though I get grief for tapping away and, moaned at for not watching the telly properly and asking questions. He also went away the other night – I had the best nights sleep in ages. I slept in the middle of the bed all night through, it was bliss! Xx #ablogginggoodtime

I was raised by a single mum and so I know that every single mum out there more than deserves (and should enjoy) these perks!! Life is extra tough on your own, so make sure you pull on those comfys and enjoy not shaving your legs whilst star fishing in bed!! You deserve a medal! #ablogginggoodtime

Awwww this is super cute… <3 my partner is very understanding but yeah sometimes I'd like not to have him making my house smell like boy smell!!

  16. I’ll second all of that, being a single mum too! I love when you are absolutely knackered that when you get the little ones or ones to bed that, thats it, complete you time to just crash out and not even have to speak. Lying star fished in the bed, also heaven! #BloggerClubUK

  17. I was raised by a single Mum and now coping with Henry midweek when hubby is away, I appreciate how hard she must have worked.

So enjoy your well deserved me time, you’ve more than earned it.

Haha, I don’t shave my legs as often as I should and I am happily married. Whoops. Must try harder. I would very much enjoy having a bed to myself! I also love the t-shirt đŸ™‚ #bloggerclubuk

  19. My first husband and dad to slaughter one was so useless I’d have been better as a single parent. I was by the time she was 3 and I rejoiced in going to bed when I wanted, having control of the remote and so much more. #bestandworst
