Some people love decorating, others loathe it. Either way, it is a time-consuming job that has to be done. When you have a young family the best approach is to keep things as simple as possible.

Fast ways to update your walls

For example, rather than wallpapering your walls choose for most of the rooms. That way you can simply order a new canvas print every now and again to update things and create a slightly different look. Or, if you are bored with your painted walls just wallpaper a single wall. If you want something really new and fresh take a look at the huge wall stickers that are now widely available. They come in a huge range of designs. There are some really fantastic ones out there for bedrooms, especially children´s rooms. You can even come up with your own design and have that turned into a huge wall sticker.

Touch things up

Sometimes you can get away with simply going around a room and dealing with the marks. Provided the paint is not water soluble, you can use a solution of sugar soap to freshen up the paintwork. It will eliminate most marks.

Quick kitchen updates

Rather than go through all of the hassle and expense of having a new kitchen installed it is relatively easy to update the one you have. Modern spraying techniques can be used to re-style the cabinet doors. If that is not an option, you can simply buy new doors. Stone kitchen counters can be reground in-situ to make them look like new.

It is far easier to lay linoleum than it is to tile a floor. If you do want to lay a new tile floor use the biggest size tiles you can find and stick with plain designs.

Re-cover your dining room chairs

It is really easy to freshen up your dining room chairs by recovering them. You can easily find a how-to video online. All you need is a good-quality upholstery stapler and about 30-minutes to re-cover each chair. You can easily do one or two chairs per evening. No-sew soft furnishing ideas

Fabric glue is fantastic stuff. You can use it to make all kinds of items. It is a lot faster and easier than getting your sewing machine out. You will be really surprised by how much you can make in this way. Table-runners and mats or window blinds are just a few examples.

New soft-furnishings

In the living room, simply changing your soft furnishings and curtains can make a huge difference. The same is true in the bedroom. Buying a new rug, bedding set and curtains, changing the lamps and artwork on the walls can have a transformative effect.
