Something I have always found small children have a hard time grasping is time. It’s probably because we have so many sayings related to time like in a minute, next week, tomorrow, yesterday, ago etc. It’s no wonder it can get a bit confusing but what makes it more difficult is that children like to know what they’re doing. So when Danilo asked if we’d be interested in reviewing one of their new My First Calendar packs, I thought it would be a great opportunity to help Alyssa to understand when things are going to happen and about time, days of the week and seasons in general…with the help of some of her favourite characters.

A non-dated product, this new interactive calendar from Danilo can be used ALL YEAR ROUND and encourages children to learn about the days of the week, months of the year, the weather and the seasons through popular Pre-School characters like the PAW Patrol, Peppa Pig and PJ Masks.

It was a tough choice for us between PJ Masks and the Paw Patrol but in the end the pups won out. The calendar is split into several sections and each area is something fun. There is a seasons section, with a card for each season and your child has to put the current one at the front.

There is a spinning wheel the change what month it is as well as another one to switch between the days of the week.

There is then a spinning arrow for the time of day wheel as well as another one to be changed daily depending on the weather.

Finally there are two mini wipeable whiteboard sections – the first where children can practice writing their numbers with whatever date it is. The second is where mums and dads can fill in the activities for the child that will be coming up that week.

Alyssa quickly whipped this out of my hands and had a good play with it, including “practising her writing” on the weekly planner. However, now the initial interest has passed, it is hung up ready for her to go to each day. She changes the wheels and has to go and open the curtains first thing to check on the weather.

Each week, we’re able to sit down and write about what is coming up the following week and then she gets to cross off the activities as we complete them each day.

It’s a wonderful tool for helping children to get their heads around the way the world works with time and seasons and days of the week.  They retail for £8.99 with an advised pre-school age. You can purchase one here.
