I’m A Blogging Success Because… Week #22

Success comes in all shapes and sizes doesn’t it? It can be an award you’ve waited your whole life to get. It could be recognition for something or from someone that matters. Or it could be something as small as your child saying I love you. We don’t celebrate success, in whatever form enough in my opinion and over the past few weeks and months with the madness that is blogging awards and particularity in the past week with my fight to get blogging seen as a real job, I have come to realise that everyone is a success in their own right. So, we find ourselves here and with me opening up the doors to Mummy in a Tutu for the first time to a guest post series. This series is here for any and all bloggers to talk about success; their success or the success of someone else that they want to recognise. Welcome to I’m a blogging success because… Let’s hand over to Sarah from Tammymum…

I have been wanting to part take in Katie’s series for, well since it began some many many weeks ago. The truth however is that for a long time I haven’t been able to come up with a legitimate reason as to why I am a blogging success. Now that is not a woe betide me kind of statement and I am not saying my blog is not ‘successful’ as success is ultimately subjective – I just did not know what a blogging success meant to me.

After stewing on it for quite some time I thought back to my seemingly compulsory birthday blog post. This post really touches on why my blog is a success to me, so I have no shame in using some of the text from that post. a bunch of pink roses

I started to increase the time spent on my early 2016 and in hindsight I don’t think this was a coincidence. It was a difficult time in my life, I had my second baby in 11 months, who was premature, still poorly and a one year old. I was elbow deep in sleepless nights, nappies, feeds, reflux, consultant appointments, toddler/baby gate, I had a house to keep in some kind of order and a partner working all hours, on piss poor sleep to provide. I put myself at the very back of a long queue, that is motherhood, especially that of two very young babies. I am not complaining for I know, just as I did then, that it was a phase to get through but looking back it was a dark phase at times. girl sat at table writing in a notebook with a coffee next to her

During this time my blog gave me more than a space to offload, moan or celebrate the good. It gave me some wonderful friends, people to talk to in the middle of the night when our kids wouldn’t sleep, people to keep me company on those lonely parenting days and people to guide me through the blogging world. It also gave me something I wasn’t expecting, something I hadn’t had for a while, it gave me a purpose – a purpose that was for me and didn’t involve tending to someone else. That’s not to say my babies were not purpose enough, far from it, believe me when I say – they are my everything. It is just that gave me something to do that was mine and for me alone. It gave me a space to get lost in, it gave me a mental and personal challenge but most importantly it brought me back to life at time that was becoming increasingly dark and difficult. Blogging gave me, me.

Now, that I have made the difficult decision not to return to work and stay at home with my babies blogging provides me with an adult space that I can pour my thoughts and brainwaves into and it gives me something that I miss from the working world. It also gives me the potential for a future.woman sat at a computer writing with a cup of coffee

Essentially, to me, I am a blogging success or rather my blog is a success because over the last 15 months it has, at times, kept me going and I have kept it going. It has grown considerably and I am incredibly proud of all that I have achieved – technology really isn’t my thing. I know it all sounds a little deep for ‘just a blog’ but it’s true. I believe I am a person who needs something other than being a SAHM (no that is not a criticism of those who don’t, just a personal preference), I thought that ‘other’ would be work. However as, for us, this was not possible. I have successfully created, nurtured and now provide my own ‘other’. That is my success.

  1. SO beautifully written! I wanted to cry when reading this because it made me feel like I’m not alone. I’m a new (very new) Mommy Blogger and I started my blog because I needed to challenge and prove to myself that I can do something if I put my mind to it. I needed a creative outlet that would help me grow as an adult. I LOVE my kids and family and I love taking care of everyone, but I need an identity that’s “Me” too. I have a long road ahead, but I learn more and more every day.

oh bless you sweet. I am so glad you were able to relate to sarah. You are definitely not alone and you do need to be you. Anytime you fancy a chat then please do feel free to pop me a message xx

    • Tammymum says:

Ah thank you. It nice to know we’re not alone isn’t it!

  2. Tammymum says:

Thank you very much for featuring me Katie. I’ve been too embarrassed to read it all week, it’s like watching yourself on telly lol! I manned up today though, thanks again for having me lovey xxx #ablogginggoodtime

  3. This is a nice series. It makes me think back on my own experiences as a blogger. I’m fairly new to the scene and I enjoy how I can keep in touch and interact with other adults while staying at home with my child. #ablogginggoodtime

  4. Siobhan says:

A lovely post – it’s so true you can get caught up in all the stats and visitors, but such a big part of blogging is the carthartic aspect and becoming part of a community going through all the same things that you are! #ABloggingGoodTime

  5. Great post, I’m amazed that you managed to keep your blogging going during such demanding times, but it sounds like it was a great outlet for you and writing can be so therapeutic! Not to mention as you said, all the relationships you built with other bloggers. I’m so glad it’s been a success for you. #ablogginggoodtime

  6. Great post. I love the tammymum blog and I can totally relate to this. I’d been a SAHM for just over 7 years when I stated my blog and it has definitely given me ‘me’ back. I feel like I have an identity again (aside from wife and mother) and it’s invigorating x

  7. Definately popping over to read more about Sarah and her family! #ablogginggoodtime

  8. I love that i was not alone in the needing some adult space. I too put me right at the back and after four months of parenting a gutsy child who fed literally non-stop, I found my blog and now cannot live without it. It was lovely to hear your success story! #ablogginggoodtime

  9. Wow hats off to you mama – 2 babies so close together will make for a wonderful friendship but must be tough at the start! I felt the same need to connect as I’m currently on mat leave. I love that this community is so open and honest – it’s people like you that inspire me! #ablogginggoodtime
