I’m A Blogging Success Because… Week #20

Success comes in all shapes and sizes doesn’t it? It can be an award you’ve waited your whole life to get. It could be recognition for something or from someone that matters. Or it could be something as small as your child saying I love you. We don’t celebrate success, in whatever form enough in my opinion and over the past few weeks and months with the madness that is blogging awards and particularity in the past week with my fight to get blogging seen as a real job, I have come to realise that everyone is a success in their own right. So, we find ourselves here and with me opening up the doors to Mummy in a Tutu for the first time to a guest post series. This series is here for any and all bloggers to talk about success; their success or the success of someone else that they want to recognise. Welcome to I’m a blogging success because… Let’s hand over to Mike from Bemused Backpacker

I am a blogging success because I am finally at a point where I am earning a professional living doing something I love.

I started blogging partly as a way to have a platform to promote and sell my books, but mostly as a way to build a second career and slowly move out of nursing, which I have been doing alongside blogging from the start. Along the way I have battled through a steep learning curve and watched blogging turn into the burgeoning profession that it has become.

I have hit and surpassed goal after goal in my readership numbers, social media followers and engagement, I have turned away those who wanted to exploit my blog for free promotion time and time and time again, I have demanded that brands and marketing PRs treat me as a professional and pay me what my work is worth, I have fought to push the boundaries of what blogging is seen as and what it should be. I have done all that, and although there is still a long way to go, I have made great strides in that campaign.

My blog is now a platform for a variety of income streams, my travel clinic, paid press trips, various paid campaigns from brands and marketing agencies, my books, all of these and more have been small successes in and of themselves, but I am finally at a point where it the blog itself is becoming sustainable with a diverse income stream, and it is allowing me to slowly step away from my former career and concentrate more on doing what I love, which is writing.

Blogging is changing rapidly and is on the cusp of exploding over the next few years into a fully fledged profession. As more bloggers start to demand fair recognition and pay for the work they do and are creating a bigger distinction between themselves and those who simply do it as a hobby and offer no ROI to brands, blogging as a whole is being recognised as the serious marketing force and new media that it is. And I plan to ride that wave to be even more successful.

That is the nature of success, when you achieve the goals and the benchmarks for success that you set for yourself, you want more. I think the important thing is whilst you should always strive for more, it is equally as important to stop and reflect on – and celebrate – each and every milestone you do achieve too. That is why I consider myself a success now, because I have achieved everything I have set out to achieve and so much more than I ever could have imagined when I first started out. And now I want even more. My blog is a growing business now, and for me that is a success, but I will not stop reaching further and further.

But for now I have reached and surpassed every goal I have set for myself and my blog, and for me that is what being successful is all about.
