Create a wall border, rather than a fence

If you currently have a wooden fence separating your property from your neighbours, you may want to consider adding a wall instead. They’re more durable, can’t be damaged in high winds and they don’t require the same level of maintenance as a fence.

You can also make them additionally waterproof with Marshalls coping stones. These are inexpensive and come in a wide variety of colour options to ensure they match any wall.

Be clever with the plants and flowers you choose

Few things are as time consuming when it comes to gardening, than taking care of your plants and flowers. Therefore, it really pays to be clever about the types of flowers you’re planting.

Ideally, you’ll want to stick to native flowers which are used to the local conditions. This will really lower the amount of pruning and watering they need. Some great low-maintenance plants and flowers include lavender, ornamental grasses and the Santa Barbara Daisy.

Consider concrete seating

Another low-maintenance option is to invest in concrete seating. When you own plastic or wooden outdoor furniture, it may look great, but it does require a lot of maintenance. Concrete seating on the other hand is highly durable and won’t weather as much. You can also make it cosier by adding cushions whenever you want to use it.
