Farmer Palmers Review: Day Out in Dorset
9th April 2018
Anyone who follows my blog or more particularly my Instagram will know I am a huge coffee fan – in fact there are some days where I don’t actually know if my eyes would be open if it wasn’t for coffee. I’m not a coffee snob and yes I do love a really good cup of java but quite honestly as long as there’s caffeine in it I will drink it. Now, from my initial opening sentences, you may well think I am an addict but I am not, in fact I am just a really bloody tired mother. Thanks to Alyssa’s chronic illness which we are still on a waiting list to hopefully fix, she doesn’t sleep well. Add in the fact she is a toddler which brings it’s own issues and I am faced with a child who has never been a good sleeper. Hence my need and love of all things coffee. So when Get Nourished got in touch asking if I’d like to take their coffee wake-up challenge I was more than game (I’m not sure desperate would actually be an exaggeration) to give it a go…

I am one of these people who is a fan of coffee in many different ways and will also change with the season. During winter I will enjoy hot milky lattes on their own or with gingerbread spice and in summer there is nothing I love more than an iced vanilla coffee – delicious. Now, due to the fact my sleep is a little hit and miss thanks to work and my non-sleeping toddler, I often find it difficult to get up in the morning which is not like me at all as I have always been a morning person. Get Nourished is an iced coffee drink designed or coffee lovers who either have trouble getting up in the morning or want to get healthy as it is also a protein drink too.

“If you like your coffee strong, Get Nourished, a new iced coffee drink, contains 25g of protein per bottle, putting the punch into your usual caffeine hit… Get Nourished isn’t your average protein drink! Made using high quality lactose-free milk protein, Get Nourished also shuns synthetic sweeteners, so it won’t leave behind the chalky, dry mouth aftertaste like many protein drinks do.”

I cannot say I have tried many protein drinks but I have tried quite a few ready-made iced coffee drinks for on the go and they do in fact have that synthetic taste after drinking which isn’t in fact enjoyable. So, I was more than happy to give something a go that promised no chalky after taste, extra protein which as a veggie can sometimes be hard to get and a hit of caffeine all to boot.

Get Nourished, which launched in Holland and Barrett stores back in February, comes in three different flavours; Vanilla Bean Latte, Hazelnut and Cacao Mocha and Coconut and Cacao Mocha. The Vanilla instantly appealed to me and I have to say was my favourite out of all three when I tried them. The others were nice but I definitely preferred the Vanilla but then it is all down to personal taste.

My challenge was to drink one a day for seven days and see if it became any easier to get up in the mornings or even wake up I suppose. So, what I did was I replaced my first cup of coffee for the day with the Get Nourished drink – sometimes I do only have one a day so  having it first thing in the morning made sense or me. I don’t think I noticed any effects right until the end of the week when I suddenly didn’t have them anymore. I don’t think it is ever easy to get up when you are suffering from sleep deprivation but I do believe it wasn’t quite as difficult and there was certainly less morning fog than normal.

If you’re a sleep deprived parent who’s struggling to get up, a gym fan looking for a healthy caffeine/protein boost then you should definitely think about grabbing a supply of Get Nourished drinks for the fridge so you can grab one and go at any time.

Yum! I love that these are lactose free…I’m a little hesitant about adding in extra calories – I try to not drink my calories unless they are saved up for a glass of wine or cocktail.
How was the taste? That hazelnut sounds yummy. đŸ™‚

  12. I gave up coffee nearly 7 years ago when my caffeine intake was at ludicrous levels so am a strict decaf only woman now which I never thought I would say. I can however still relate to that foggy head syndrome first thing in the morning, it’s just mine is treated with a decaf hit. The concept of combining caffeine with protein is an interesting one and I can see it may be attractive to many. Thanks for sharing. #ablogginggoodtime
