We, as a family, love board games. Whether it’s just a cold wintry night, Christmas, a birthday or a late night in the garden during summer, we always take the opportunity to get out the board games and do battle. Right from Alyssa and Lily through to the oldest we all enjoy playing a variety of games that doesn’t stop once the kids have gone to bed. Now, you’ve heard of Escape Room surely, where you and a team get locked in a room and have a certain amount of time to solve clues and unlock the room before you lose. Well now, there is Escape Room the Game and we were lucky enough to be sent a copy to review.

The game is designed for 3 to 5 players, aged 16+ but can be done with just the two of you if you have no friends willing to play. Thankfully I have a lot of willing victims so it wasn’t hard to round some of them up.

The concept is fairly simple – solve puzzles and find clues to help you escape from a room within 60 minutes. In practice it’s anything but easy, but first let’s take a look at what come’s in with the game. Take a look at my unboxing video…

The game comes with three scenarios included, and you can only play each scenario once, because once you know the answers to the puzzles you can’t really play it again. You can buy additional scenarios though so don’t think it’s over then! Instead of having locked doors with codes on like in real escape rooms, the game version revolves around the Chrono Decoder. The Decoder acts as the timer for the game, but also as the ‘door’ because you must insert four keys into the Decoder in the correct order to escape.

Although you’re only sitting on your dining room table and you aren’t physically trapped in a room the tension does really build as you see the timer counting down. You can also download the accompanying app which includes ambient sounds that really get the heart pumping.

This game is awesome and I love the fact you can buy extra scenarios so that the fun can keep on going! Best tip I can give you is read the instructions and communicate – things do get a little heated but hey, there would be no fun if there was no tension!

Escape Room the Game is available from Argos and Amazon and has an RRP of £30.00
