Creativity Runs Wild with K’NEX | Review

*Ad-Gifted. All opinions are my own.

Alyssa was never a builder kid. She was all dolls and play kitchens and not hugely interested in anything you had to build, other than her train set. However, when she went to school and found that for a free activity she could play with building blocks, she would choose it almost every time. Even now, on the edge of heading off into Year 2, she still chooses marble run construction and building tasks for her golden time. So when we were offered the chance to review one of the new K’NEX building sets I knew she would love it…. if Mr Tutu didn’t get in there first. They compromised and played together.

K’nex is a construction toy system founded by a guy called Joe Glickman. It was first introduced in American in 1992. There motto is Imagine, Build , Play. K’nex is one of the best STEM toys available on the market, build beyond the box with innovative and interactive products that encourage the child to let their imagination run free and have independent play.

We were not spent a specific build set but rather one of the large boxes of k’nex to let our imaginations run wild with. In our set there are 705 pieces (!!!) and over 70 different suggested models that can be made including a boat, monster cars and so much more. Of course, you don’t have to make ANY of the suggested models you can just see where your imagination takes you.

As I said, Mr Tutu was just as desperate to play with this as Alyssa was. They of course, tipped ALL the pieces out and sat together making their creations; Alyssa going with the flow and Mr Tutu following the instructions to the letter.

This set is advised for ages 7+, I imagine due to the size of some of the pieces. However, don’t panic as there are sets suitable for as young as 3 years old. K’nex is really easy to use and pieces just slot together, really easily. I can remember playing with it as a kid and ALWAYS wanting to make the spinning Ferris Wheel.

Overall we love K’nex, we love that the possibilities are endless and the creation is drawn from the child. There are so many different sets and options and prices to suit all budgets. You can collect different sets and then mix and match the pieces. As a STEM toy, it’s great for stimulating little minds and showing them that the possibilities are endless.

Included in each set is a step-by-step manual to help bring your imagination to life: Bringing together Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Maths with imagination, K’NEX provides specially designed toys for every age. This engineering set encourages the development of fine motor skills, dexterity, spatial awareness and problem solving using the colour-coded rods and connectors specially designed to snap together.

Great as a birthday gift or Christmas present for boys and girls, K’NEX building toys for kids allow children to explore their creativity as they learn and develop
