Mummy Time: 15 minutes of Bliss

I am sure all parents, new or old hands will agree, that sometimes it feels that we never get a moment to ourselves. As a single parent, I think a moment to myself could be even rarer despite the help of my family. Now, I wouldn’t change being a mummy for anything in the world but sometimes you just need 5 minutes to drink a cup of coffee still hot, or to go to the toilet for a time span longer than 10 seconds (never thought peeing for longer than 10 seconds would be a luxury), or simply sit and be silent.

One thing I do miss, is the opportunity to have hour long, luxurious bubble baths where I would stay until I turned into something resembling a prune. Of course, to do this now I’d need to hire a babysitter, plus I am not sure I could actually sit still for this long any more without feeling I should be doing something or without experiencing mummy guilt for not being with Alyssa! My mum knows me very well, and knows when I am feeling run down or just need a moment an d a couple of nights ago, she noticed said need for 15 minutes of “me time.” So bless her heart, she made me a bath…

She went into the bathroom, closed the door, and reappeared 10 minutes later. She took Alyssa from my arms, and said off you go. I walked into the bathroom, to find the room lit with Sanctuary Spa candles, which smelt lovely and to see steam rising from a hot bubble bath. For this particular bath, my wonderful mummy popped in the gorgeous “A French Kiss”bubble bath bar by Lush Cosmetics. The lavender smells were lovely and calming, and the bubbles made it feel truly luxurious. Now, I only stayed in there for 15 minutes (I have this real thing about imposing on people too much and didn’t want to take advantage of the fact my mum was having Alyssa even though she doesn’t mind), but that 15 minutes felt like 2 hours of pure, silent bliss. I felt rejuvenated, relaxed and the cleanest I have felt in a long time. So, thanks to my mummy, I had 15 minutes of “Mummy Time” and it was pure bliss.
