If you are looking to go travelling with family, be it within your own country or abroad, there are a lot of things you need to think about before heading off. I know a lot of people think; money, tickets, passport, luggage and done, but you never know what might happen whilst you are away and so there is a bit more involved when heading off on your travels. I thought I’d share some top tips for you when travelling with family that might help in planning your adventure.
Inclusive?
When booking your holiday, you need to know what is included in your booking. You have your flights and hotel, but how far is it to the hotel from the airport and is your transfer included in your booking? If it isn’t and you suddenly need to hire a car or pay for a taxi that could be a big expense you incur just minutes after landing, so make sure you organise this.
Talking about inclusive – what are you going to be eating and drinking? In my experience, whilst it costs a little more initially to go all inclusive, it does work out cheaper in the end because this can often include drinks all day, ice-creams and snacks for the kids plus all your main meals. Nothing to stop you trying somewhere else one evening if you want to spend a bit more in a local restaurant but in the long run, you’ll save more money with the initial pay-out than having to spend money for drinks and 3 meals a day for the family.
Insurance
Honestly, you should really NEVER travel without insurance, because you simply do not know what is going to happen and this includes travel insurance for existing medical conditions. I used to think it was silly, but always took it and when I went to Kavos one year, I got bitten on the back of my leg and it swelled up and I needed oral medication and ointment that would have cost a fortune. Equally, when I took Alyssa to Greece aged 3, within half an hour she slipped and split the tip of her tongue in half and we had to seek medical help and she was given medicine and cream. You never know what will happen so don’t try to save money by not getting any.
Days Out
Wherever you are going on holiday, if you want days out and excursions, then pre-book them because they will always be more expensive on the day or worse, SOLD OUT! Have a look around online and see what prices you can find and NEVER be afraid to ask for discounts because the companies want you on these excursions and it never hurts to ask and haggle a bit to save yourself some money. It can’t hurt to ask, so what have you got to lose.
Hopefully these few tips will help you out when travelling with family and you have an amazing time. Have you got any good tips to share?
