I love to cook and when I get into a real cooking mood I can quite easily and happily spend hours in the kitchen cooking up a storm. Needless to say I am a feeder. I love to feed people as I enjoy watching their faces and reactions when I make something they love. Of course, being a feeder I have to be very conscious of what I am feeding people as I don’t want to feed them bad food – yes it needs to be delicious but I don’t want it piling on the pounds. I’m usually quite liberal with oil when I am cooking – yes a little Olive Oil is great for you but I do tend to drown things in it or sunflower oil and this is obviously somewhere I can cut back. One of the great new gadgets on the block is the Air-fryer and the wonderful people at VonShef sent me their Digital Air-fryer to try out some recipes with…

a glass bowl with olive oil in it and a bottle pouring into it with fresh olives next to the bowl

I’ve said it a number of times but I do really love the VonShef kitchen gadgets – brilliant quality and do exactly what they say on the tin and more! As I said they very kindly sent me their Digital Air-Fryer which allows for low-fat cooking and is multi-functional as it’s able to bake, roast and re-heat. Now the reason I was so excited to receive this was because it allows you to cook with 80% less oil than in a conventional oven or fryer.

Once I had set mine up, I was able to see the clear digital screen on top which allows you to set the temperature and timer – cooking guidelines for various products are available in the information booklet or online. My advice would be to wipe out both the net and inside catch bowl with a damp cloth before using. I always now pre-heat my air-fryer by putting it on for 3 minutes before use which the first time you do can make a slight smell, so just wipe it out afterwards.

Now, you can cook anything in this thing from both frozen and homemade fresh chips, to fried onions and mushrooms, to sausages and burgers, to frozen breaded items. However, if you’ve got a nifty new gadget why not push it to the max?! I rounded up some great Air-Fryer recipes for you to try.

Vegetable Crisps – I have a recipe of my own for Healthy Vegetable Crisps so I am definitely going to try cooking them in the air-fryer instead!

As you can see, having an Air-Fryer really opens up a whole new world of easy-cooking for delicious dishes. It’s also brilliant if you happen to be following a diet such as Slimming World or Weight Watcher as you won’t be losing points or syns on oil for cooking as you’ll be able to bake them in the fryer. I can’t wait to try out some of these recipes and have a go at some of my own too. I took some new potatoes and tossed them in a teaspoon of oil, some garlic powder, salt and pepper and then cooked them for 20 minutes in the air-fryer (tossing mid-way through) and oh my goodness they were yummy and are a new favourite on our table.

What will you be cooking?

Well, they look far more versatile than just making chips which is what Mr A wants one for. Maybe I will get him one after all (for the doughnuts)
