It was so much easier when I was younger to give gifts to people. I’d pick something delightfully tacky but be in complete ignorance about it, hand it over and watch the smiles appear on people’s faces which is all I ever wanted. I love buying gifts for other people – I much prefer it to spending money on myself as I usually end up with buyer’s remorse and guilt when I spend money on myself. However, as I have gotten older I have obviously become much more aware of what I am buying which requires me putting a lot more thought in than before. One of the most difficult people I find to buy for is my mum. It’s not because she is picky, it’s because I am. She loves the presents I have given her; handbags, candles, mementos, candles but I am all about change and don’t want to always give her the same thing. Yes I can always  fall back on a good Lush bath set but I’m even reluctant to do that after she owned her own handmade bath and cosmetics company. Over the years it has forced me to get creative, however the Star Name Registry helped me give her a gift she’d never forget…
That’s right, could there be anything more amazing than giving someone a star for that special occasion? The Star Name Registry allows you to pick a constellation, a name for your star and a date that is memorable to the person you are gifting it to. You can also choose to add a personalised message in some of the packages available too.Â
I chose the Scorpius constellation as my mother is a Scorpio. I chose the name Fairey as that is her family name and finally I chose 08/11/22 which is a combination of the birthdays of my mother and her parents who have both sadly passed away and are sorely missed. We received the “Extra Bright Gift Set” which included a beautifully framed certificate with all of the star’s information on it and if I had wanted a dedicated message to my mother too. I decided to just keep it as the star’s information so that it was something that represented her, my nanny and grandpa. It came in a beautiful silver tissue papered box and lots of information leaflets too. The best bit I found, was that it gave you instructions on how to go online and actually view your star.
When I gave it to my mum, the  tears instantly formed in her eyes and she told me she was truly touched. I think it is definitely one of the best presents I have ever given to her. I wanted her to have it because she does so much for both Alyssa and I and I do not know where we would be without her. A star is such a huge thing but it seemed such a small token to give her. She loved the fact she was able to go online and see the star that will forever represent her and her mother and father, even after she is also gone – the perfect gift.
