I’m A Blogging Success Because… Week #23

Success comes in all shapes and sizes doesn’t it? It can be an award you’ve waited your whole life to get. It could be recognition for something or from someone that matters. Or it could be something as small as your child saying I love you. We don’t celebrate success, in whatever form enough in my opinion and over the past few weeks and months with the madness that is blogging awards and particularity in the past week with my fight to get blogging seen as a real job, I have come to realise that everyone is a success in their own right. So, we find ourselves here and with me opening up the doors to Mummy in a Tutu for the first time to a guest post series. This series is here for any and all bloggers to talk about success; their success or the success of someone else that they want to recognise. Welcome to I’m a blogging success because… Let’s hand over to Laura from Savings 4 Savvy Mums!

What a title to have as my first guest post! I am very new to the world of blogging, in fact my first post was written 16th December 2016 and this is only my 7th. To suggest I have had any success yet is being a little premature but it has given me the opportunity to think, very early on, about what I want to gain out of this new adventure.woman sat typing on a laptp

A few months ago a good friend of mine came up with a rather barmy idea of starting a website which advertised deals for parents from different companies. She confidently and very patiently explained how it would work, what she had envisaged the two of us doing, how this could make us money and the different elements it would involve. I am a primary teacher by trade and had just gone on maternity leave with my second after becoming progressively demoralized with the profession. Through the combination of unachievable targets, scrutiny from Ofsted, ungrateful parents, rude children and long hours, I knew I needed a break from teaching. The final straw wapiggy bank with money round its being told to f*** off by a 10-year-old (only to have to teach him the next morning); I was more than ready to hear about anything that would get me out of the classroom and enjoying my children. Eagerly I listened to all she had to say and quickly agreed to join her with her venture. The time came for the talking to stop and the website to start up (savings4savvymums.co.uk). Finding the deals and putting them on the website didn’t worry me – I spent hours searching for deals anyway. The world of blogging, with its posts, views, google ranking, comments, guest posts, etc is what concerned me. It was a world I knew nothing about. Again Laura was left the arduous task of explaining for the millionth time how it worked, what I could write about, how I put it onto our website, how we will be able to make some money from it. I felt like my Grandmother asking how to use an iphone for the first time – so much to take in but knowing that everyone else seems to just ‘get it’.

So what does blogging success look like to me? Yes, writing a post that will have some impact on someone’s life would be amazing but I fear that is quite a while off. In the meantime, I will know I have been successful when I no longer have to teach – but I fear even that is a little way in the future. So for the present I will find my success in discovering 22 people have just read my most recent post, and if I can double that by next month, then yep, I will consider myself on the way to being a blogging success.
