I’m A Blogging Success Because… Week #21

Success comes in all shapes and sizes doesn’t it? It can be an award you’ve waited your whole life to get. It could be recognition for something or from someone that matters. Or it could be something as small as your child saying I love you. We don’t celebrate success, in whatever form enough in my opinion and over the past few weeks and months with the madness that is blogging awards and particularity in the past week with my fight to get blogging seen as a real job, I have come to realise that everyone is a success in their own right. So, we find ourselves here and with me opening up the doors to Mummy in a Tutu for the first time to a guest post series. This series is here for any and all bloggers to talk about success; their success or the success of someone else that they want to recognise. Welcome to I’m a blogging success because… Let’s hand over to Hayley from Mission Mindfulness

When I first read Katie’s series ‘I’m a blogging success because…’ I never dreamt I’d be able to write for it.

Number 1.  I was just finding my feet in the blogging world.

Number 2.  I come from a background where this sort of thing doesn’t happen.  Fifteen years in a profession that is very good at denting people’s self-esteem and self-worth takes its toll.  You wouldn’t find many teachers talking about why they are a success in the classroom…And yet so many of them are.    Blogging and the fab posts in this series have made me realise that you CAN ‘shout quietly’ about your successes.  It’s okay to.  In fact people are very supportive of it on the whole.  How lovely.    woman sat typing on a laptp

I definitely echo many of the previous bloggers in this series.  Yes, I feel like I’m a blogging success because it has given me a sense of identity back.  Yes, it’s been an intellectual challenge for me when I desperately needed one and yes I am loving writing – something I’ve always wanted to do more of.  It’s also pushed me out of my comfort zone when it comes to ‘socialising’ (all be it virtually).  Also blogging about mindfulness definitely helps me with my own mindfulness too.

Ultimately though I am conditioned in the Ofsted teaching way so am driven to compare the aims of my blog against outcomes.  Here’s a stumbling block.  I would love to have a larger readership.  I feel passionately that mindfulness can help everyone if only they gave it a chance, so more readers equals more people educated about mindfulness.  And yet my audience is tiny. woman sat at a computer writing with a cup of coffee

But if we start to measure success in terms of helping individuals then I feel more comfortable calling myself a blogging success.  Lots of the feedback has been really heart-warming and encouraging:

Jen from Tripping through Treacle:  “you truly have kick started my mindfulness again – 12 days of meditation in a row now!”

Zoe from Petite Pudding:  “I keep learning about things that could realwoman's shoulder with superwoman written on itly help me!”

Karen from Two Tiny Hands:  “getting to see glimpses of how it [mindfulness] works for mothers is great.”  “I’m definitely beginning to understand it [mindfulness] from reading your blog.”

Sarah from Tammy Mum: “your posts…keep me going on my mindful journey”

Alison from MadHouse Mum:  I was thinking about you as I wrote tomorrow’s blog. I am definitely now more ‘mindful’.

Nicole at The Mum Reviews: “I find your blog posts…very helpful to me personally.”

Thanks everyone.  These kind words definitely make me feel like a blogging success.  Oh and my Mum and Hubby have also learned more about Mindfulness by reading my posts – that for me is the greatest success of all.

I think it is brilliant to have an aim, such as spreading the word on mindfulness and setting out to fulfill it. True success is so often organic and I feel so sure that Hayley’s ripples will make huge waves. Alison x
