I’m A Blogging Success Because… Week #11

Success comes in all shapes and sizes doesn’t it? It can be an award you’ve waited your whole life to get. It could be recognition for something or from someone that matters. Or it could be something as small as your child saying I love you. We don’t celebrate success, in whatever form enough in my opinion and over the past few weeks and months with the madness that is blogging awards and particularity in the past week with my fight to get blogging seen as a real job, I have come to realise that everyone is a success in their own right. So, we find ourselves here and with me opening up the doors to Mummy in a Tutu for the first time to a guest post series. This series is here for any and all bloggers to talk about success; their success or the success of someone else that they want to recognise. Welcome to I’m a blogging success because… Let’s hand over to Donna from “What the Redhead Said!”

Wow, being a blogging success is such a big thing and I’m not quite sure I am a blogging success just yet. I think it comes down to what you see as successful and what blogging goals you had when you started out.

For me, when I originally started blogging I wanted to document my daughter, Athena, growing up, from her weaning days onwards and to capture as many of the little moments of life as possible. This is something that I have definitely been a success at.#

Even now, four and a half years on, I still document our everyday. I write about days out, moments in our lives and try and capture the reality of our family as it grows. For me, this is where my blog came from, what made me a blogger and something I never want to lose sight of.

Secondary to that, when I went self hosted, I had in the back of my mind the urge to become self employed. I thought that maybe one day my blog could become my business and that I could earn money from it. I didn’t want to be rich and famous, I purely wanted to be at home with the children, working around them and spending as much time as possible with them.

This is something that I am hoping with become a reality within the next few months. I have been working hard at blogging – writing, promoting, collaborating – and putting in so many hours around my day job and the children that I hope I will achieve this goal, and be successful as far as this is concerned, by next year.

But being successful at blogging is also about continuing to write, being consistent and being part of the community. For me, that is where I am a blogging success. It’s not about money – it’s about so much more than that. It’s about paying back the help I had when I started out, helping other bloggers to carve a space for themselves online and build on their own hopes for their blogging future.

It’s about having a circle of blogging friends that you speak to each day and being an active part in the blogging community – a community that is always there to support you, pick you up, hold your hand and give you a pat on the back. A community that really appreciates what an amazing thing it is to be a blogger.

I do see myself as a blogging success because I still blog with the same focus I had when I started, I am fortunate that it has become a business for me but I still love it as much as Aril 1st 2012 when I wrote my first post. Blogging is addictive, inspiring and such a huge part of my life and it may well be the first thing in my life that I have ever been truly successful at.
